We are a KellyBronze Farmer producing the award-winning product under a franchise scheme which allows farmers and smallholders to develop local markets with the support of Kelly Turkeys. The turkeys are bred for the wild, reared on pasture, stubble or woodland, fed on locally produced grain, and grown to maturity to achieve the succulent flavour and texture associated with the product.
We have been producing KellyBronze turkeys since 2006, receiving tremendous feedback from our customers. We started off with 150 in year 1 and we now have 425 for Christmas 2008. Our KellyBronze turkeys are very slow growing and we feed them a natural diet with no growth promoters or hormones. They roam over lush grass pasture by day and have the shelter of a huge straw barn by night…so they lead a very happy and free life! We find they are the most inquisitive animals, and they’ll follow you everywhere. We’ve hung up old CDs as a type of toy, and they love pecking and playing with them! We make the selling days at Hayston Farm a great occasion with Christmas music, milled wine, mince pies, locally grown vegetables, home-made chutney and a lots of festive cheer.
We are getting 500 turkeys for Christmas 2010, which will be hatched in June.
